How far can a scooter travel?

Different models have a different travel range. The scooter’s motor and its battery are what determines how far you can go.

Generally, it’s around 30 kilometres.

Do I need a license to operate the scooter?

No – you don’t need a license.

Do I have to register my scooter?

No – while on a scooter you are considered a pedestrian, so you must use a footpath where possible.

Do I need to wear a helmet or a seatbelt while on the scooter?

No, as the scooter only travels a maximum speed of 10klm/per hour these safety devices are not needed.

Can I insure my scooter?

Yes, it’s a good idea to insure your scooter.

It may be covered under your content’s insurance, contact your insurance agency to check you are covered.

Can you deliver my scooter?

Yes, we can deliver to your home. Your scooter will be delivered fully assembled, fully charged and ready to use.

I bought my scooter elsewhere, are you able to service/fix it?

Yes, we are happy to help you and get you mobile again.

How often do I have to charge my scooter?

We recommend leaving your scooter on charge when not using it. That way it is ready to use for whenever you need it and the batteries are kept in a charged state.

Where should I store my scooter?

You need somewhere safe to store your scooter. Keeping it locked indoors, or your garage or carport will protect it from weather and potential thieves.

It is best to store your scooter near a power source so you can easily charge the battery. Although some scooters allow you to remove the battery to charge elsewhere, batteries can be heavy, so this is something you need to think about when, or if, you dismantle the scooter for transport or storage.

Will a toilet for disabled people accommodate my scooter?

These toilets are not designed for the size of a scooter. They are usually only wheelchair accessible.

How long will the battery last?

The life span of a battery generally depends on 3 things.

  1. The quality of the battery.
  2. The care you provide for the battery.
  3. Usage.

Maintaining a fully charged battery extends its life cycle. A battery should give you a good 4 to 5 years.

How long will my tyres last?

You should replace your tyres when the tread starts to disappear, and they look bald.

If you drive on bald tyres, you are more susceptible to having a flat tyre – which could leave you stranded.

Can I use a scooter on public transport?

Yes, but only on buses, trains, trams and taxis that have disability access.

Always apply the brakes on your scooter when on public transport.

In some Australian states all scooters manufactured after July 2018 have blue or white labelling. Blue labels indicate that the scooter can be used on footpaths and public transport. White labelled scooters are for footpaths only.

Scooters are much bigger than electric wheelchairs and some public transport vehicles do not have enough room to turn a scooter around. You should be confident that you are able to reverse your scooter off transport if needed.

South Australian buses, trains and trams have ramps to help people get onboard.
If you use public transport, make sure you drive on to the ramp with the wheels straight and do not turn while on the ramp.

You must let the driver know your destination when you board the tram or bus, they will know to put down the ramp at that destination.

  • To get on a bus, wait until the driver sets up the ramp for you at the front door of the bus, or tilts the bus, so you can board.
  • To get on to a train or tram, wait on the blue and white ‘patch’ with the disability symbol. The driver or a passenger service assistant will set up the access ramp for you.

To travel in an Access Cab your scooter must have anchoring points, and you must sit in the cab’s seat.
